<p>Together, we are stronger: The case of Whiskey and Pinot Noir</p><p>Founded in <em>2004 </em>when there were <em>only three dozen distillers</em> in the USA, Westward is going stronger than ever today when there are <em>more than 2000</em> in the country. Guess they are doing something right, right? In a completely new way of thinking about Whiskey, Westward has put this holy Spirit on a pedestal, proclaiming no tradition or whiskey-making process to be too holy to be reconsidered – if that means the Whiskey might be better for it. So they make things a bit differently. <em>Building their flavor from scratch</em>, by brewing pale ale from <em>local Northwest malted barley </em>and intensifying it by <em>double distillation</em> in custom <em>low-reflux pot stills</em>, they transform the <em>fresh pale ale</em> into a robust, bold, and exquisitely balanced Whiskey. </p><p><em>Northwesterners </em>like to stick together and celebrate each other. For the rest of us, that means some good on top of good – and that is exactly the case with <em>Westward Pinot Cask American Single Malt Whiskey</em>. Made in the original Westward way (<em>brewing the barley into a pale ale</em> to develop some exquisite flavor before distilling it into a Whiskey), this spectacular Single Malt was then <em>aged for two years</em> in <em>ex-Pinot Noir French Oak casks</em> – the Pinot Noir only from Oregon’s legendary <em>Willamette Valley wine country</em> – giving this heavenly Spirit a refreshing vibrance of the grape while still keeping the boldness we know and love form a Westward bottle. Bottled at an ABV of <em>45%</em>. </p>
