<p>This is one bold and tasty rye.</p><p>A lot has happened since the <em>Ripy Brothers </em>opened up a distillery on the slopes of a hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, in 1891. For once, it was renamed <em>Wild Turkey</em> after the Prohibition when one of the executives took it on a wild hunting trip and his friends couldn’t shut up about that “delicious Wild Turkey Bourbon”. Then, they’ve had some changing of hands as is customary, including the <em>Pernod Ricard </em>acquisition in 1980, and they’re now proudly owned by the Campari Group since 2009. And let’s not forget their current greatest asset – the legendary father-son Master Distiller duo, the literal living legends <em>Jimmy Russel </em>and<em> Eddie Russell </em>– if you put them together, you get more than 100 years’ worth of precious Bourbon-making experience. Now, let’s talk about that Bourbon.</p><p>Wild Turkey aficionados (And there’s a considerable number of them out there.) will be familiar with the duo’s higher-rye recipes and lower barrel entry proofs, producing<em> bold </em>and<em> spicy flavors.</em> Using only the best of ingredients, including 100% American grown non-GMO grains and limestone filtered water from the Kentucky River, <em>Wild Turkey Straight Rye</em> is an 81 proof tribute to rye Whiskey – the first distilled Spirit in America. Made with a mash bill of 52% rye, 36% corn, and 12% malted barley, it was aged in <em>“alligator” char oak </em>for that extra flavor kick. The kick in question: big vanilla and spice notes plus the bold rye taste. While it’s great for sipping on its own, it really <em>does an amazing job</em> in cocktails like the Manhattan.</p>
