<p>Masataka Taketsuru knew a good thing when he tasted it. Who’s he? Only the founder of Yoichi Distillery. Considered a hero in the Whisky universe, he studied Whisky production in Scotland back in the 1920s before returning to Japan to build Yoichi. </p><p>His location of choice? The north island of Hokkaido, an area which he felt closely mirrored the natural environment of Scotland. </p><p>Yoichi possesses its own cooperage and is particularly careful when selecting its barrels. Known as Hogshead, the barrels are made on-site using new oak. Yoichi produces a big, oily Spirit, in the Highland style.</p><p>And after winning Whisky Magazine’s “Best of the Best” in 2001, people were rightfully put on notice. </p><p>*This bottle is a collector’s item.
