<p>A lovely blended malt aged in two cask types to craft an exotic, fruit-forward dram. </p><p>When it comes to Whisky in <em>Taiwan</em>, Kavalan seems to get all the attention. But TTL — <em>the Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation</em> — has been making waves recently. TTL was founded as a bottler, importer, and reseller back in <em>1947</em>. In 1978 they opened their first distillery. They produce <em>a wide range of </em>specialty Spirits and Wines tailored to the Asian market. But the popularity of Whisky in Taiwan has skyrocketed and the folks just<em> can’t get enough of it, </em>so in 2008 they released their own Single Malt Whisky under their Omar and Jade Supremacy brands —<em> to rave reviews.</em> Since then they have opened the new <em>Nantou Distillery</em> and introduced additional brands.</p><p>In Japan, the phrase “blended malt” can mean different things. Sometimes it means Spirit that is produced in <em>different distilleries</em> and sometimes it means Spirit from <em>different batches</em> at the same distillery. Our sources say that <em>Yushan Blended Malt Whisky</em> is made at TTL’s newest distillery — Nantou. More importantly, Yushan Blended Malt Whisky is aged in a combination of <em>ex-Bourbon </em>and <em>Spanish Sherry casks </em>and delivers the best of both with rich toffee and exotic fruit notes.</p><p><u>Smartass Corner:</u><em>Yushan is the name of the highest mountain on Taiwan. It’s nearly 13,000 feet at the peak. It is also called “Mount Jade.”</em></p>
